FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)
All Lipogen products are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) according to U.S. FDA standards. To obtain this approval, manufacturers must submit a comprehensive product safety portfolio, including a detailed analysis and characterization of the formula’s ingredients and the production process. The FDA reviews scientific information, clinical trial results and toxicology reports demonstrating product safety.

EU Novel Food
CognoLipid has earned the distinguished Novel Food authorization for safety from the European Commission. Novel Food dossiers submitted to and evaluated by each EU state contain comprehensive detail about product composition, characteristics, production process, risk factor analysis, stability, use, extent and history of exposure, and a comprehensive toxicological review. Each country submits its independent opinion to the European Commission, which then makes a final decision.

Lipogen formulas and ingredients are produced in an ISO-certified facility, conforming to international standards that promote the manufacture of products that are safe, reliable and of good quality, while minimizing errors and waste.

HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)

The Lipogen production plant uses food-grade cleaning-in-place (CIP) cleaners to sanitize equipment between batches, as required by FDA, EMEA, GAMP and cGMP standards. Cleaners used are environmentally friendly and many cleaning components are recycled to preserve the environment.

Quality Control

Lipogen follows the strictest quality standards in manufacturing its products to promote optimal health. In fact, the company undergoes quality control audits by the FDA and other authorities equivalent to pharmaceutical companies, and covers all manufacturing stages, end to end. This strict process begins with the sourcing and production of raw materials and continues through finished product production and packaging, including testing in an independent external laboratory. Before a product leaves our facility, it has been approved to meet our standards of excellence.

Here are just a few of the systems we use across the quality assurance spectrum.

  • HEPA air filtration: Meeting international standards for air filtration, Lipogen processes air that circulates through its production areas through a bank of HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filters that remove airborne particles. Air quality is routinely tested in Lipogen’s in-house laboratory.
  • Water purification: Lipogen does not use dangerous solvents in its product manufacturing. This natural approach and Lipogen’s use of clean water minimize contamination and make for healthier products. Water samples are routinely verified for purity in Lipogen’s in-house laboratory.
  • Kosher certified: Lipogen products are certified as KOF-K kosher. This international organization authorizes that Lipogen follows the strictest laws of kosher observance.
  • Halal certified: All Lipogen formulas are certified to comply with Islamic halal laws.

Vegan bulk products (liquids and powders)

Phospholipids such as phosphatidylserine were originally manufactured from bovine brains. However, with the spread of mad cow disease, brain-sourced supplements were outlawed in many countries. Lipogen was the first company to show the effectiveness of vegan phosphatidylserine and the first to produce it on a large scale.

Production of phosphatidic acid, phosphatidylcholines and sophisticated vegan Lipogen formulas followed suit.

Many “free-from” benefits

Many Lipogen products are gluten free, dairy free and egg free. They contain no fish/shellfish, no sugar, no preservatives, no peanuts/tree nuts, no preservatives and no artificial flavors. Bulk products are PCR negative and free from maltodextrin, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide and glycerine.
